Donna Marie Phillips

Donna Phillips, 89, died July 22, 2022, with her family by her side in Porterville, Ca. A memorial service will be held for Donna September 9, 2022 at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:30 am. She was born in St. Louis, Mo. July 10, 1933 to Charles and June Hosack. The family moved to Pomona, California during WWII while her father was in the service. Donna is survived by her brothers Richard Hosack and Bob Persson and daughter Linda Carroll (Kevin), and son Loren Phillips, four grandchildren: Mallory Thompson, Cal Carroll, Tanysia Sanchez, and Michael Phillips, and nine great-grand children. Donna met her husband, Billy, in 1949 in Long Beach, Ca, and they married January 28, 1950. After a short stay in Atlanta, Ga. they returned to Pomona. Billy and Donna celebrated 70 years of marriage before his passing on April 23, 2020. Donna lived in La Quinta, Ca and worked for the Desert Sand Unified School District in transportation until her retirement in 1998. She and Billy moved to Porterville, Ca in May 2017 to be closer to family. Donna was a passionate animal lover and spent her remaining years raising money for the Porterville Animal Shelter along with her fellow dog park friends. She was also a serious student of the Civil War and had a particular fondness for Ulysses S. Grant and northern and southern battleground sites. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Billy, brothers Vern Hosack, Lester Hosack, and Ronald Hosack. Donations may be sent to Porterville Police Department Animal Control Services 350 N.
