Robert Stanford Brown “Bob” of San Diego, California passed away on Saturday, August 6 at the age of 104. He was born on September 23, 1917 in Needles, California where he grew up in the desert City of Needles around the train station as his father was an Engineer for The Santa Fe Railroad for 50 years. Bob graduated from Needles High School in 1935. He worked as a Naval Officer for 30 years in communications and advanced cryptography during WWII and on many ships and shore duty all over the world. He retired in 1965 as a LCDR. Bob was escorted by his daughters on Honor Flight in October 2021. He was the oldest of 92 veterans at 104. He was actively involved in playing golf, swimming and square dancing in the Rancho Bernardo area where he lived and worked for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 61 years, Olive (Tots) Brown (deceased 2000) and Alegria Evans brown wife of 9 years deceased in 2013. Bob is survived by his 2 daughters, Evonne Hammond of Bellport, NY and Sally Holmen of Valley Center, CA, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.. The family would like to thank Apreva Hospice, Magdalena Wolf, Lisa Taylor and Frank Martinez and the staff at Las Villas Del Norte for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 9:30 am. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 am.
