Nadine Collier, 78, of San Diego, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, after courageously battling Alzheimer's for nine years. Nadine was born on November 20, 1946, to Helen and James Hart in San Diego.
After graduating from Mount Miguel High School in 1964, Nadine attended Grossmont College. In her biology class, she met Seth Collier; their first date was over at a funeral service for her lab frog. They wed in October 1965 and went on to have her two children, Shirley and Travis, whom she loved selflessly until her passing.
Nadine had a side business in the 1970s and early 1980s, and her mother sold craft and macrame items. She also worked at Nu-Ear Electronics for over 20 years before retiring to take care of her husband. In later years, Nadine made crafts and jewelry for family and friends and went on trips with her children.
Her greatest joys and accomplishments were the love of her husband and the gift of being a mother to Shirley and Travis. Whenever her growing children stated that they were hungry between meals, "Have a banana." was Nadine's default response. Shirley and Travis turned the table in adulthood and would parrot back the phrase “Have a banana” with a laugh anytime Nadine stated she was hungry.
Nadine had a warmhearted and caring personality. Her sweet nature impacted each person she interacted with. Co-workers loved working with her, and she always made employee events at work memorable, especially Halloween and colleagues' birthdays. Her favorite vacation spots with family included Mendocino, Anza Borrego Desert, and her home of ten years in Pine Valley. Nadine and Seth loved living in Pine Valley the most, where they enjoyed the local wildlife and the seasons, especially winter with the snow and their wood-heated home.
Nadine was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Seth Collier in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley of San Diego, CA and her son, Travis and his family of Great Falls, MT. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
We will celebrate her life on April 5, 2025. Place of celebration has not been finalized at time of posting but contact Shirley or Travis for details.
In lieu of flowers, have a banana and donate to the Alzheimer's Association.
