Richard Kimball Chitwood (known as Kim) was born August 29th 1939 in Riverside California to Eileen & Richard Chitwood. He was their only son. Kim has two sisters, Kathy Deyo and Connie Wolf. Connie passed two days after brother Kim.
Kim was raised in Riverside, California. He graduated from Poly High School and after graduation he attended Valley College. During his tenure at Valley College Kim met Suzanne in their archery class. They married in 1961. From that union, a handsome baby Boy & beautiful Girl was born, first born Dawna in 1962, and second born Steve in 1964. The family enjoyed vacationing in various locations such as Table Mount (Wrightwood), Laguna and Pismo Beach, camping in Death Valley, along with many road trips to such states as: Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Utah.
Father & Son moments cherished by Steve Chitwood, these were precious moments such as fishing at Big Bear, Arrowhead, and Silverwood. Then the Shooting excursions in the upper desert and the many air shows.
Once the Couple moved to Rialto. Kim was employed at the Fontana Gas Company. After retiring from the Gas co. His next adventure was as a Permit Technician for the city of Fontana. Along with these roles he volunteered with the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department from 1979-2015 (36 years) at Victor Valley where he advanced from level 3 up to level 1 at the shooting range & defensive driving. Simultaneously Kim & Suzanne both served as founding members of the historical society of Rialto as docents from 1971 through 2024 (Over 50 years).
Kim’s love for his precious wife Suzanne was celebrated on anniversaries in places such as Cambria (Fog Catcher Inn), Pismo Beach and Festival of the Arts. They did this throughout their 63 years of marriage.
Kim enjoyed working on his 1964 Chevy truck, flying, hunting, shooting, fishing and having conversations with and caring for others.
These hobbies were incorporated into areas of service such as the following:
Kim enjoyed serving as a Cart Usher at Sunrise Church for years ushering God’s people to the front doors with love, compassion, and humor.
Kim took his love of history and people and served as a docent with the Rialto Historical society for many years.
Kim took his love for hunting, guns, and people and served with the San Bernardino County Sheriff dept. training on the shooting range and riding along providing safety and guidance for many years.
Brother Kim served on the San Bernardino County Grand Jury from 2016-2018 and served on the Utility commission appointed on 7/18/2000.
Kim’s love for Jesus was lived out through these areas of service in the community before all to see.
Brother Kim was baptized in the early 1990s at Sunrise Church.
He loved attending the Men breakfasts at all campuses nothing stopped him from the fellowship, food, and fun from 1984-2020 .
Kim’s Christian life was lived out by the co-investment of brothers and sisters in Sunrise Life groups throughout his years at Sunrise. Kim was a busy man that was always moving. Everyone knew how he loved the Lord. He would say "join me at Sunrise Church or let’s go to the Men’s breakfast.
Kim leaves behind his sister Kathy Deyo, brother in-law Allen, daughter Dawna and son Steve, daughter-in-law Ruth, Cousin Sydney that was like a brother to Kim, his precious wife Suzanne, and other relatives, many loved ones and friends along with his church family.
